Improving self-esteem and confidence were the messages at Cawood Elementary School on Monday as a group from Faith Temple Church in Middlesboro performed its "Mirror-Mirror" program. "It's our hope to bring some positive guidance and direction into the hearts of the young people that we meet," said Jason Creech, the program's coordinator. Creech added that he hopes to address many of the problems facing young students with the "Mirror-Mirror" program. "We try to teach children about self-esteem, confidence and bullying. Whatever you are going through, there is hope," Creech said. *During the assembly, students are encouraged to participate in games and events that allow them to have fun while teaching positive character traits. Cawood Elementary School students Ashley Engle and Chris Whitehead received a makeover and were re-introduced to an ovation from their peers at the end of the program. Both Engle and Whitehead said they enjoyed their experience. "I went to the beauty shop and got my hair done, then I came back to school and they did my makeup. I really enjoyed it," Engle said. "I had fun. I think the makeover made me look pretty cool," Whitehead added. Summer Chitwood, Family Resource and Youth Services Center Coordinator for Cawood Elementary School, said she chose the "Mirror-Mirror" program because of its multi-disciplinary approach to youth. "One of the things that we have tried to infiltrate into our curriculum is character education. This program seems to teach several different positive characteristics," she said.
